A year later, wanting to escape from the memories and realizing the family was just using him to get to the money, he got emancipated from his grandparents, put someone he trusted in charge of the farm and moved. Wesley Haven rubbed his eyes as the radio station he had located 5 hours prior as he was pulling out of the truck stop parking lot. It had been a long, long day he got on the road before even his grandpa had gotten up to ride the heifers in the south pasture. He had loaded up what few belongings he had in his new Chevy dually and stock trailer the day before so he could make his escape before everyone else woke.
For the last few months he had been made aware that his parents net worth when they died was more important then the teenager left behind in the wake of his families tragic death. Many of his friends, and friends of his father, had been leavin bread crumbs for him leadin to the real reason why his grandparents had so warmly taken him in. Besides the sizely settlement given to him in a trust that he could only access after he had turned 16. He discovered he was the sole heir of the Haven Farms empire. His parents, while they were alive, were good farmers, but even better business people. He had worked on the family farm ever since he was a lad, and had watched the small farm his grandparents had bought his mom and dad quickly turn into the biggest farming operation west of the Mississippi. His parents always liked him to earn what he got, so he spent much time workin for his father. So all the employees learned to like him. He never shyed away from work and always helped whoever he could. It was no surprise that there was a revolt when plans of his grandfather trying to take over the farm surfaced. But it was his fathers assistant and right hand man who put an end to that and kept the farm in the hands of the rightful heir.... Wesley.
When Wes found out what was going on on his 16th birthday, he had himself emancipated and took his place at the head of the empire his father had built. But staying was to painful for him, so he turned the reigns over to the man who had helped him keep control, bought a small farm and house just outside of a little town called Forks, loaded up and headed out. Now as he scanned the stations on the radio he gave thought to pulling over at the next town, getting a room at a hotel and crashing for the night. He passed a road sign that reads "Forks- 10 mi". Surprised he thinks where did all the miles go? Seemed like just a second ago he had crossed over the border. He pushed down a little harder on the accelerator pushin the diesel up to 80 mph. Half because of the excitement, half because of how exhausted he felt, and half because he could. He started paying attention to the road signs lookin for an old faded sign leading to the old Mills Ranch. He turned and drove up the gravel road directly after the old dilapidated sign, growing more and more excited the closer he got.
Then he saw the old two story house and old red barn in his head lights. He pulled up to the front walk, dollied down the gooseneck livestock trailer, shut off the pickup grabbed his sleeping bag and a couple bags of groceries he had stopped to pick up back in Idaho. He drug himself up the steps to the porch. Put down his baggage and reached down. The doormat said "Home Sweet Home!" "Indeed!" Wes thought to himself as he pulled it up to reveal the manilla envelope which held the house key. " Guess she got tired of waitin." He said to himself. Unlocked the door, grabbed his gear and went inside.... "Home Sweet Home!" He said as he closed the door behind him.
