Okay. So. It was the first day of school - and she was ditching. That wasn't that bad, was it?
These were the thoughts running through Oceane's head. As the forest grew darker and deeper with every step she took, she found it harder to force herself and turn around and attend her first day of senior year in high school. At least, her first day as far as anyone mortal knew. But how could she be stuck in a classroom during this beautiful day?
The forest itself reaffirmed her reasonings and sent rays of sunlight straight through the trees, illuminating the leaves, floor, and bark of the forest into a kaleidoscope of earth streaks. No way was Oceane going back now.
She plopped herself down on a particular flat grass patch and fingered a lone daisy between her spidery fingers. She was sure to be in heaps of trouble when Sebastien and Juliette discovered her self induced vacation, so she knew she had to relish in the day as much as she could. She closed her ochre eyes briefly, and an image of Marguerite stained her eyelids. Marguerite was at Forks High, alone, counting on Oceane to stand beside her during the awkwardness and introductions and classes, but Oceane had flaked out, as usual, and now her beautiful sister was marooned.
Oceane flailed her extremities like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum. She calmed herself after a few moments and blew a few pieces of dark hair from her eyes. She would go to school today - for Marguerite. But only after she had thoroughly enjoyed herself in the forest.
