Carlisle looked at his watch and noticed it was time for his scheduled break and made his way to his office. Just as he sat down at this desk, the door clicked open with Jasper and Alice standing there with one of the many nurses who worked there.
"I'm sorry to bother you, Carlisle, but two of your children have arrived claiming it is an emergency."
Carlisle stood up, rounded his desk, and smiled at the nurse.
"Thank you Nancy, I'll take care of it."
The nurse nodded and closed the door. Carlisle looked from Jasper to Alice, a serious expression on his face.
"What is it, Alice? A vision?"
Alice shook her head as she looked at Carlisle.
"Actually it is the absence of them. I haven't been getting even a shred of anything and it worries me. I wonder if the Volturi are up to something. Or maybe something worse. I just don't know what to do, Carlisle. It's been on my mind so much that I can't even concentrate on appearing human around others, which is why we're here."
Carlisle nodded his head and thought for a moment.
"Well, I cannot say for sure if the Volturi are up to something, but I think it would be best to wait for the family to all be in one place to discuss this again. Return to the house and wait for me and the family there. Try to rest and not alarm Esme. We don't need her stressed out about this before the family is together. I will see if I can return home early; but if not, I will call and inform Esme and have her tell you."
Alice nodded, her expression unchanging as both her and Jasper made their way out of the office and back to the house.
